Unlocking EU Research Funding: Strategies for Successful Applications

29 January 2026, 1:30pm, Rudolf Chaudoire Pavilion

The TU Dortmund is already represented on the European level with exciting projects. Behind these successes are dedicated researchers whose ideas demonstrate the research strength of our university and have thus gained visibility across Europe.

This event offers you the opportunity to learn first-hand from these researchers about the key challenges and opportunities regarding European research funding. In the panel discussion, you can learn about their experiences with various funding formats such as ERC, collaborative projects or EIC — and deepen these insights in personal conversations at the subsequent themed table discussions. Panelists include:

Prof. Dr. Nele McElvany, Vice President Research, TU Dortmund

Prof. Dr. Jürgen Howaldt, Director of the Social Research Center Dortmund, TU Dortmund

Prof. Dr. Sebastian Peitz,  Safe Autonomous Systems (SAS) at the Department of Computer Science, TU Dortmund

Apl. Prof. Dr. Doris Reiter, Group for Theoretical Physics, Department of Physics, TU Dortmund

Petra Peter, Head of Project Development and Management, Research Support Office, TU Dortmund

The event begins at 1:30 p.m. and is scheduled to last approximately 2.5 hours: The introduction and panel discussion will take about 60 minutes, as will the subsequent table discussions (participants will switch after 30 minutes). Afterwards, there will be an opportunity for open exchange with the participants.

Additionally, you can get a compact overview including all the important information on the respective EU funding formats at our Funding Week one week later.

The event will be held in English and is targeted towards professors, junior faculty as well as postdoctoral fellows and researchers.
