Support services
Seed funding from the Rectorate
The Rectorate provides financial support for the submission of proposals for complex DFG and EU collaborative projects if funding is not available from research unit or department funds.
The Rector’s Office also provides financial support for applications to EU collaborative projects under Horizon Europe (RIA/IA, EIC, Missions), ERC Synergy Grants, and MSCA Doctoral Networks, provided that funding from department or faculty resources is not available. If necessary, up to 50% of a research position can be funded for a maximum of six months (in accordance with the current DFG funding rate for doctoral candidates and comparable positions). This is contingent upon the project being coordinated by TU Dortmund University and a compelling proposal being submitted. Application forms are available upon request from the Grants Office.
Strategic funding may be granted for DFG and EU collaborative projects no more than once every two years.
For EU collaborative projects, the Research Support Services offers a comprehensive project management service that includes support during the preparatory phase in finding suitable consortium partners, coordinating the application process, facilitating consortium communication, and preparing work plans and budgets. If your application is successful, we can also, upon request, take on individual tasks or handle the entire project management and work directly within the project teams.
The funding advisor responsible for your department will also be happy to assist you in preparing an application to the EU.
The Rector’s Office offers financial support for submitting proposals for DFG collaborative research projects (SFB/TRR, GRK, and FOR; Kolleg-FOR). This support covers both the preparation of a project outline and the drafting of a full proposal, provided that funding from department or faculty resources is not available. During the outline phase, funding for a research assistant position (50%) for up to 6 months may be provided upon request. During the full proposal phase, funding for a research assistant position for up to 12 months may also be provided upon request (100% for SFB/TRR, 50% for GRK/FOR/Kolleg-FOR). Funding is based on the current DFG personnel funding rates (doctoral candidates and comparable positions). Prerequisites for funding include serving as the project leader, significant participation by TU Dortmund University in the consortium, and a concrete concept during the outline phase. Application forms are available upon request from the Grants Office. Strategic funding may be granted for DFG and EU consortium projects no more than once every two years.
The Rector’s Office provides support right from the initial stages of idea generation and consortium formation for a DFG consortium project. The contact person in the Research Support Services is Dr. Ronja Scholz. The funding advisor responsible for your department will be happy to assist you in preparing an application to the DFG.
