Dear researchers,
As usual, we would like to provide you with news about research support at the start of the winter semester 2021/22.
This fall, we will celebrate the 5th anniversary of the Research Support Services after its reorganization in 2016. We are pleased that so many of you are already using our service. We would like to take this anniversary as an opportunity to collect your wishes and ideas around our services. Therefore, we hereby cordially invite you to participate in our anniversary survey up to and including October 29, 2021.
We look forward to your suggestions!
We would also like to draw your attention to the FIT Newsletter. The newsletter bundles current calls for proposals from different funding agencies and can be tailored to your individual needs. Another advantage is that you receive the calls for proposals directly. More information about FIT can be found below under “In Focus”.
We wish you a good start into the new semester and look forward to supporting you with your research ideas and plans!

Non-scientific review criteria
In addition to subject-specific criteria, various cross-cutting issues play a not inconsiderable role in the review of your externally funded projects. These include, for example, the areas of equal opportunities, support of early career researchers, and research data management. The Research Support Services will be happy to advise you on how to take these aspects into account in your application and will provide text modules and explanations on the service portal.
Sample applications for selected funding formats
We would be happy to help you make your funding applications even better. In addition to exchanging ideas with the peer group, it can be helpful when writing an application to take a look at other successful applications in advance. Would you like to take a look at a best-practice application? Then feel free to contact us. For selected funding formats – such as the ERC – we already have applications that we can make available to you. However, in order for us to be able to pass on applications or establish contact with successful applicants, we depend on the willingness of researchers to make their applications available to us for this purpose. If you can imagine sharing your successful proposal with other researchers at TU Dortmund University, please feel free to get in touch with us.
Welcome to the team
At the beginning of August, we welcomed a new colleague to the team: Dr. Stefanie Gottuck joins the Grants Services. We warmly welcome her!

DocDay – A day all about doctoral research
On November 5, 2021, the time has finally come: The first Doctoral Researchers’ Day – DocDay for short – of the Graduate Center TU Dortmund will take place online via Zoom! In addition to informative lectures and exciting discussions, you can also expect input on the various phases of the doctorate from entry to successful publication of the dissertation. Furthermore, the DocDay offers the opportunity for university-wide networking among doctoral researchers. Language of the first DocDay will be German. The program as well as the possibility to register can be found on our website.
The team is complete again
Since September 1, Dr. Verena Peters coordinates the offers for postdocs and junior faculty. She designs the range of events for the target group and offers individual consulting.
Research Data Management
Research data management has changed location
In order to further advance the TU Dortmund University’s research data management strategy, Dr. Olaf Kletke took over the management of the new department “Research Data Management” in the Department of University Development and Organization at the beginning of August. The team, which is currently being established, has set itself the goal of providing individual support to all professorships, working groups, institutes, and collaborative projects in implementing the principles of research data management at TU Dortmund University and expanding the central RDM infrastructure portfolio. As Research Data Service, the department will continue to offer researchers the best possible, needs-based support in all disciplines and subject cultures, together with the University Library and the ITMC, and in close exchange with the Research Support Services. For all questions regarding research data, you can reach the contact persons as usual via e-mail.
