Grants Services

Horizon Europe goes live

Horizon Europe – the EU's new research framework program with a total budget of around € 95.5 billion is currently launching. The program continues to be based on three thematic pillars, which include both collaborative and individual funding formats. What is new, in addition to the focus on basic research, is an (even) stronger orientation toward innovation and societal challenges. The first calls are expected at the end of April. Information on structure and content is available from us or can be found on the EU website.

Support options for DFG collaborative projects

TU Dortmund University offers financial support for the application of Collaborative Research Centers or Transregios, DFG Research Training Groups and DFG Research Units. New is a support already in the outline phase: For the application of a DFG Research Training Group or a DFG Research Unit, researchers can apply in the future for a research fellow position (50%) for up to 6 months for support. Furthermore, the preparation of an institution proposal (stage 2) will be supported. Please contact us at an early stage if you would like to take advantage of these offers.

DFG strengthens underrepresented genders in collaborative projects

The gender balance between male and female spokespersons of DFG collaborative projects remains unbalanced. To support the goal of gender balance, the DFG now offers an additional budget for spokespersons: If persons of the respective underrepresented gender become spokesperson, a special lump sum of 80,000 euros per funding year can be applied for. The budget can be used to finance scientific or administrative support staff, a research(-free) semester of the spokesperson or a proportionate rotation position. Already approved consortia can apply for the budget via an informal supplementary application.

Project management

In the Project Management section, we are currently revising our support concept with the aim of offering our expertise in the future not only for organizational collaboration in Horizon Europe projects, but also for other funding formats, such as national funding agencies. To this end, we are happy to take your suggestions and proposals. Is there anything you would like to see or would have liked to know earlier? Write to us!

Support for early career researchers

“DocDay” – A day for doctoral research

A whole day all about doctoral research: That's Doctoral Researchers' Day, or DocDay for short! Look forward to informative lectures, exciting discussions, and opportunities for university-wide networking. DocDay will take place on November 5, 2021 – either as a face-to-face event or digitally.

Further offers and formats for all career stages – doctoral researchers, postdocs, junior faculty, tenure-track professors – can be found as usual on our website.

Research Data Management

Electronic lab book introduced at BCI and CCB faculties

Electronic lab books are a modern alternative to paper and pencil and simplify the linking of research data with its documentation. They also facilitate retrieval and sharing of research data through a search function. The Faculties of Chemistry and Chemical Biology (CCB), as well as Biochemical and Chemical Engineering (BCI), have now jointly introduced electronic laboratory notebooks via the SciFormation software (following a pilot phase at the Chair of Industrial Chemistry). The Research Data Service has provided active support in this regard and is happy to answer questions from all researchers and departments regarding research data management requirements.

On our own business

The pandemic is hitting the Research Support Services just as it is you and in addition we are experiencing some personnel changes. Until we are fully staffed again, we will do our best to support you as quickly and comprehensively as you have come to expect from us. Should we not always succeed in doing so, we ask for your understanding.

Did you know that ...

... the VW Foundation is realigning its funding strategy? The foundation has formed three new profile areas: “Exploration”, “Understanding Research”, and “Societal Transformations” as well as the cross-sectional area “Science in Society”. The first calls for proposals under the new funding strategy are expected in spring/summer 2021.
