Unlocking EU Research Funding: Strategies for Successful Applications
Strategies, Success Stories, and Networking:
University Event Showcases Pathways to EU Funding
On January 29, the Vice President Research of TU Dortmund University, Prof. Dr. Nele Julius McElvany, welcomed interested researchers to the event: „Unlocking EU Research Funding: Strategies for Successful Applications“ to inform about the opportunities and challenges that come with European research funding.
More than 70 researchers of all career stages and different disciplines attended the event, indicating a strong interest in European research.
The event started with a lively panel discussion: Prof. Dr. Jürgen Howaldt, Prof. Dr. Sebastian Peitz and Apl. Prof. Dr. Doris Reiter – all experienced researchers with expertise in different EU funding formats – shared their insights and useful tips. Researchers got to know about the different formats including ERC grants, collaborative research projects, and the European Innovation Council (EIC) from different perspectives. Their personal experiences were complemented by Ms Petra Peter from the Office of Research Support Services, who presented the different services and use cases. Prof. Dr. McElvany completed the panel and highlighted the priority EU research funding has for the rectorate also with regards to the university’s upcoming EU research strategy.
But despite the challenges that arise with a big research project and the high competitiveness of the formats, the benefits very much outweigh the burdens. Therefore, it doesn’t come as a surprise that all panellists clearly agreed on one thing: „Perseverance will eventually pay off. So, don’t be afraid to apply for European research funding – just do it!“
Afterwards, participants had the opportunity to engage in a personal and informal exchange with the experts about their personal research and connect with peers from other departments and career stages.
The highlight of the event was the impressive poster exhibition presenting 34 very diverse EU funded research projects that were displayed all across the Rudolf-Chaudoire-Pavillon. They underlined not only the success but also the breadth European research at TU Dortmund University.
